How to Microwave Scrambled Eggs in a Cup (Step by Step)

If you don’t have the inclination or the time to get your pan out and prepare scrambled eggs, or there’s a microwave at hand at your office, then the microwave will do the job just fine.

It comes in handy particularly if you just want to make one egg.

Microwaves heat products differently as compared to using a pan’s direct heat – therefore, you will obtain eggs that are of a slightly different texture.

If you follow this guide, you will get an omelette that is soft and broken-up but won’t be rubbery.

This is my personal favourite way of making scrambled eggs – they are the perfect remedy for hectic mornings!

How to Microwave Scrambled Eggs in a Cup (Step by Step)

It is possible to control your scrambled eggs’ shape when using a microwave.

When they heat up, they will mould themselves to the shape of the cup you will use.

This makes them ideal for sliding into a pitta pocket or a split round muffin.

Whether you’ll be using a ramekin or a microwave egg cooker, you will be able to whip up scrambled eggs in just a few minutes.

This guide prepares a quick meal that you can customise using diced ham (microwave it if you must), shredded cheese, fresh herbs, or vegetables.

Here is the step-by-step guide on how to microwave scrambled eggs in a cup.

Ingredients

  • Eggs
  • Water (you can use milk here as a substitute)
  • Pepper and salt

Step 1

Spray your microwave-safe cup you are planning on using with cooking spray or lightly wipe it with vegetable oil.

Step 2

Crack the eggs, and salt, and pepper in the cup, and whisk the eggs.

Alternatively, you can whisk your ingredients into a different container and then pour them into your microwave-safe cup.

Add water or milk depending on your preference and keep whisking.

In this step, it is important that you pull back a small area for venting.

Step 3

Microwave using 70% power (medium-high) between one and a half minutes to two minutes.

When cooking, keep stirring several times in intervals of 15 seconds.

Step 4

Cover the cup and allow it to stand between 30 seconds and 1 minute.

Your eggs will be slightly moist and will finish cooking when left to stand for some time.

Fork through the scrambled eggs and if they are done enough, then stop the microwave.

If not, cook them again in bursts of 30 seconds, forking through them until they are cooked.

At the end of cooking, fork through them again to break them up.

Notes

  • Carefully pick your receptacle. Ensure that you use a great-quality, microwave-safe cup. The best for making scrambled eggs are round shapes.
  • You have to oil or butter the cup so the eggs will not stick.
  • Add water, milk, or something that has a flavour like stock or coconut milk.
  • Prepare the scrambled eggs in intervals of 30 seconds. This will prevent them from being too puffy. Depending on how soft you would like your eggs to be and your microwave’s strength, take intervals of 30 seconds until your eggs are ready. Fork through the eggs after every burst to get the best-scrambled eggs. Keep in mind that as you’re stirring through them, the time in which they will cook will also increase.
  • Enhance the flavour of the scrambled eggs by adding herbs at the beginning and stirring them in. After the first 30 seconds, add cheese and at the end, add microwave smoked salmon. If you like, you can add a small amount of butter at the end.

Microwave scrambled eggs are easy to prepare and can be prepared in under three minutes and still have their usual classic flavour just like scrambled eggs prepared on a stovetop.

The good thing about scrambled eggs in a cup is that there is less clean-up.

You microwave your scrambled eggs in the same cup that you mixed them in. there is no pan to clean up – just a single cup.

You can also personalise the scrambled eggs by finishing off with your preferred toppings.

You can’t go wrong with some hot sauce, crisp crumbled bacon, or cheddar, right?

Sometimes, we just don’t have 10 minutes to prepare slow scrambled eggs using a stovetop.

We will save that time for the weekends! In real life, mornings tend to become crazy out the door.
