How many times have you been in a bad mood or had a stressful day and then eating something delicious that either someone else has cooked for you or you’ve made yourself has cheered you up? A lot I bet!
Do Eggs Explode In The Microwave?
I came across a very famous internet fallacy of late.
Ever heard of the boiling an egg in a microwave story? I’m sure that you have.
I’m sure you’ve also heard that the egg explodes but is it true or internet myth?
So why don’t we debunk all this today?
Through the years, the best advice has always been, don’t do it all. The hustle isn’t worth it.
Listening to Internet gurus, the answer becomes poking holes in the bottom of the eggs using a thumbtack just before you boil the egg.
I subscribe to neither of the 2 schools. I just boil the eggs with salty water instead, and I haven’t experienced an egg explosion to date.
I’ve never poked a hole in an egg and I still use a microwave so we all know you are in the right place
So why don’t we learn how to make soft-boiled eggs in a microwave?
Here is what you will need…
- 3-7 eggs (Depending on the number of people you’re cooking for)
- Half a teaspoon salt for each egg.
- Water to cover about half an inch over the eggs.
The first step of this is looking for a microwave-safe container.
An important point to keep in mind is that ceramic and glass containers are the best options to use.
Most containers nowadays will have a “Microwave-safe” tag that will easily identify it to you.
In this case, all you’ll need is an egg cooker or a big mug that you can use.
Place the eggs at the bottom of the container you’ve chosen.
Fill the container with hot water making sure the water covers about half an inch above the eggs.
Once that is done, the salt comes into play. For every egg in the container add half a teaspoon full of salt.
So that means that if you’re prepping for 4 people, that translates to 2 teaspoons.
If there is a step you are going to skip, let it not be this one. This is what is going to prevent the egg from exploding.
This will ensure that your egg cooking venture is an easy and stress-free process.
This step varies a lot depending on the type of eggs that you want to make.
Soft boiled eggs will generally take less time than hard-boiled eggs.
Most sources will quote somewhere in the zone of 3 to 4 minutes on a 50% power level and my experiments coincide with these figures.
This will be just enough time for the yolks to turn gooey, just to your liking.
Place the eggs in ice water immediately after they leave the microwave to ensure that they form properly.
Let them settle while you look for something to eat them with.
If you’re looking to eat yours immediately, leave them in the cold water for 2-3 minutes and they will be good to go.
Soft boiled eggs work well in a salad and can be stored in the refrigerator as well.
To do this efficiently dry the eggs using savings or a clean kitchen cloth.
Don’t peel the eggs and place them in an airtight bag with a paper towel. This will ensure they stay fresh for long.
