There’s nothing worse than getting ready to grill your favorite meal and then realizing you have to clean the gas grill.
Many people put this off, but the best way to take care of your gas grill is to clean it regularly.
Fortunately, it’s pretty easy to get it spic and span and won’t require that much time or effort.

ToggleStep #1: Gather Your Cleaning Supplies
You’re not going to be able to do a good job of cleaning your gas grill if you don’t have the right equipment.
A grill brush comes in handy as it was designed for just this purpose.
Some paper towels or rags are also a good item to have on hand.
Finally, a container of warm, soapy water is also vital.
I recommend wearing gloves because this job can be a bit messy.
Step #2: Turn off the Gas
Never, ever clean your gas grill without turning off the gas supply first. I cannot emphasize this enough.
I want you to stay safe so be sure you never skip this step.
Check to make sure the gas is turned off or remove the tank from the grill.
Step #3: Clean the Grill Grates
It’s easier to clean your grill grates if you remove them from the unit first.
Douse the grill brush with soapy water, then vigorously scrub the entire surface of each grill grate.
Be sure you get between the slats and in all of the corners. Scrub the back and front.
Rinse and repeat with any spots that are still dirty or greasy.
You may need to change your water if it gets too yucky to clean with.
Step #4: Clean the Burners
You probably know as well as I do that dirty burners don’t produce as much heat and might not even work at all.
Uncover the burners and gently scrub any built up debris, dirt, grease and food from them.
If your grill uses ceramic briquettes or lava stones, remove them before cleaning the burners.
Step #5: Clean the Burner Tubes
This is where you see the flame when you cook with your gas grill. Grease from food can drip onto them, clogging the holes.
Dirt and debris from being outside can also get in the way of even cooking and proper heat output.
Gently brush each of the burner tubes with clean water and your scrub brush.
Step #6: Clean the Bottom of the Grill
Wipe any burnt ash, food bits and other stuff that has collected at the bottom of the grill.
If it’s dry and not greasy or wet, a handheld vacuum works really well for this part of the job.
For stubborn debris, a paint scraper is an easy way to get the gunk off.
Wipe it with a rag or paper towel between scrapes for the best results.
While you have the grill grates off, clean out the grease collection tray too.
Step #7: Wipe the Rest of the Grill
Use a damp rag or paper towel to wipe down the rest of the grill, including inside the lid, the outside of the unit and the burner knobs.
Use a gentle brush for stuck-on grease and gunk.
Step #8: Put the Grill Back Together
This step explains itself. Once it’s all clean, put the grill back together.
Keep the cover on between uses to help keep it cleaner.
