Oxo softworks are a popular brand of cooking and kitchenware with a variety of tools and gadgets that are both practical, useful, and look nice. Though duw to the materials they are made from there can often be questions on the care for them.
Generally, the Oxo softworks products can be washed in a dishwasher safely. However, since Oxo products are diverse, some products might be unsuitable for dishwashers and have to be only hand washed because of their material.
In this article I am going to talk about Oxo Softworks kitchenware, whether it is suitable for dishwashers and what temperatures they are best washed at.
Are Oxo Softworks Products Dishwasher Safe?
Oxo Softworks products are diverse and have a vast amount of specific series of products. Thus, depending on the material of a product, it can be either safe or unsafe to be used in a dishwasher. Oxo products are usually made of stainless steel, silicone, nylon, or wood.
All of them, apart from wooden cooking utensils and products, can be washed in a dishwasher. However, wooden products should never go into a dishwasher. Otherwise, they might warp, splinter, and eventually break because of the high heat of the dishwasher.
Therefore, wooden products need to be washed only by hand. Although the other products are safe to be washed in a dishwasher, it is recommended to always have them on the top rack. This is done since most dishwashers have different heat and sanitising cycles.
What Is The Best Temperature To Wash Oxo Softworks On?
Stainless Steel Oxo Products are best washed at temperatures up to 200 degrees Celsius (400 degrees Fahrenheit). However, non-stick frying pans are better washed at a higher temperature, preferably 260 degrees Celsius (500 degrees Fahrenheit).
Nylon Oxo Utensils are best washed at 200 degrees Celsius (400 degrees Fahrenheit).
Silicone Oxo Utensils are best washed at 220 degrees Celsius (430 Degrees Fahrenheit).
How Best To Wash Oxo Softworks Products?
Wooden Oxo Products must be hand washed since they can be relatively damaged if washed in the dishwasher. The best practice is to wash them with lukewarm water and remove any stains with a soft sponge. Otherwise, a stainless steel sponge might scratch the products.
Silicone and Nylon Products can safely be used in a dishwasher but only by separating them from other materials and putting them on the top rack.
On the other hand, even though stainless steel Oxo products are generally washed in the dishwasher, it is wise to care for each product differently.
Stainless Steel Silverware firstly should be rinsed to avoid exposure to acidic foods in case of not using the dishwasher immediately after their use. Furthermore, they should be put in the basket provided with most dishwashers to separate them from other materials that might cause the stainless steel to erode.
Pots and Pans are generally advised to not be used in the dishwasher. Unless it is stated on a specific product that it is dishwasher safe. This is because most detergents can be extremely harsh and cause corrosion on the stainless steel.
Furthermore, in some cases, the dishwasher might cause watermarks, discoloration, or potting on the pots and pans, which are difficult to correct. Thus, it is said pots and pans should be hand washed. However, there are now detergents specifically produced to be used when you wash stainless steel products.
Thus, you can safely wash Oxo pots and pans in a dishwasher. When setting the dishwasher, it is recommended to use mid to high temperatures for better cleansing. But before doing so, make sure to rinse any food that remains to avoid acidic foods eroding them.
Kitchen Utensils such as whisks, spatulas, serving spoons, etc., are dishwasher safe. However, if they have plastic handles, it is advised to be hand-washed rather than in the dishwasher. This is because the onslaught of the water on plastic can be harmful. Also, the detergent might cause deterioration or rust on the handles.
Travel Mugs can only be safely washed in a dishwasher if they are non-insulated and non-coloured. Otherwise, the insulation might break, and detergents can cause discoloration. Thus, it is advised to hand wash it immediately after use and then dry in order to avoid staining.
However, similar to pots and pans, with suitable detergent, travel mugs that are both insulated and coloured can be dishwasher safe.
Generally, Oxo Softworks Products are dishwasher safe. Nevertheless, it is always good to be cautious. For instance, separate products according to their materials and think twice before setting the temperature.
Additionally, it is best to rinse every product with lukewarm water, especially if there are any food remains. Then, as the cycle ends, make sure to immediately dry them.
