Speaking of pop tarts, here is a quick recipe for you to follow.

Equipment Needed For Homemade Berry Pop-Tarts

  • Sharp knife or pizza cutter
  • Mixing bowl
  • Pastry brush
  • Fork
  • Measuring cup
  • Rolling pin
  • Baking sheet

Ingredients Needed For Homemade Berry Pop-Tarts

  • Strawberry and blueberry jam
  • Egg wash
  • Milk
  • Pie crusts
  • Powdered sugar
  • Cornstarch
  • Fresh strawberries and blueberries for garnish

Step 1

Start by preheating the oven to 400 degrees. You can make the blueberry fillings a day in advance so that you don’t have a lot to do on the actual cooking day.

But it’s okay to make it as you cook; the pop tarts will still be delicious and sweet. This is one recipe you can bring the kids to help you prepare.

When your dough is ready, roll it to a large shape but don’t stretch it too thin. You should be able to cut a few rectangles considering the amount of dough you prepared.

You should remove the edges, take the pizza cutter, and cut rectangles that look even to you. There are no judgements; every rectangle doesn’t have to be perfect.

Step 2

Put your blueberry jam and strawberry jam in two separate bowls. Remember, you can use only one type of berry; I am just going for extra credit here.

Add one tablespoon of cornstarch into the bowls and mix; the cornstarch thickens the jam. Take a couple of tablespoons of the jam and add to your rectangles.

If it’s a small rectangle, one tablespoon of jam is enough. Brush egg wash or water around the edges of the dough. It helps the dough adhere when you start folding them.

Place the other side of the dough over the place with jam. Use your fingers to fold the dough over the berries.

Take a fork and crimp all the edges until they are shut. You can pole holes on top of the dough to allow some air to escape.

Step 3

Take the remaining egg wash and brush it all over the pop tarts. The egg wash helps the pop tarts to brown; you should also sprinkle some sugar for extra sweetness and flavour.

Place the pop tarts in the preheated oven after placing them on the baking sheet. If you are using 400 degrees, the baking will take twenty minutes.

Remove the pop tarts and let them cool on the baking rack while you start mixing the glaze. Mix the sugar and milk until it’s thick with no lumps.

Pour the glaze on your pop tarts after they cool, and add the fresh berries on top if you want.
